πThe Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) conference begins tomorrow.
π₯οΈ Online, of course.
π©βπ I’m excited to reflect on how far I’ve come since I attended my first conference with them in 2018.
π Back then, calling myself a newbie editor made sense. I set up my business in the January and started working my way through their training courses. I went along to listen. And it could not have been a better accelerant for my editing journey. Top tips from pros like John Espirian allowed me to hit the ground running.
2οΈβ£ years later, I’ve now edited over one million words for my clients. I’ve dropped the word newbie as training courses, client work and testimonials have allowed me to kick imposter syndrome to the kerb.
π What will I learn this week? Loads, I have no doubt about it. I’m looking forward to networking with fiction editors tomorrow morning and finding out how others use style sheets to best effect tomorrow afternoon. On Tuesday, the Denise Cowle and Susie Dent session is sure to be a highlight (fangirl moment!) Webinars on macros and language change take my fancy later in the week.
Professional development is so important. I’ll never stop learning. I’m grateful to have this opportunity.
βHave you managed to attend a conference this year?
