No smoke and mirrors. This is what happens if I edit your book.

There’s always that element of uncertainty when you hire a freelancer for the first time.

❔Will they do a good job?

❔Will they meet my deadline?

❔Will they offer value for money?

❔Will communication be smooth?

The freelancer also has uncertainties when taking on a new client.

❔Will the work they’re offering fit in with my schedule?

❔Is what they want the same as what I deliver?

❔Will communication be smooth?

❔Will they pay me on time?

Not all freelancers deal with these uncertainties in the same way. We each have our own strategies and procedures.

If you become my client (if I become your freelancer), here’s what I do to ensure our working relationship is not hindered by uncertainties.

1️⃣ A SAMPLE EDIT:

After initial communication to ensure what you want and what I offer matches up, and that timescales are do-able, I offer a free (up to max. 1000 words) sample edit of a section of your manuscript.

This allows me to give you an accurate quote for the proofread/copy-edit, according to the level of intervention required.

Once this has been returned to you, you can decide whether we are a good fit and whether you are ready to…

2️⃣ SIGN AND EXCHANGE CONTRACTS:

So there is no uncertainty about our responsibilities in our freelancer–client relationship, we both sign the terms and conditions document. This is followed by an…

3️⃣ UPFRONT FEE:

50% of the fee is payable before the work commences.

4️⃣ LET THE EDITING COMMENCE:

I’ll be busy squirrelling away, working on the edit at this stage of the process.

5️⃣ YOU GET THE EDIT BACK:

Once the manuscript is ready, you are invoiced for the remaining 50% of your bill.

Knowing where we stand in this freelancer–client relationship will help us both.

It’s a sure-fire way to help you get one step closer to launching your book.
