I’m in the lucky position of being booked up (for book edits) for the rest of 2026.
Which means I’ve got the luxury of looking ahead and thinking about what I want to be doing this time next year.
Right now, I average two book edits a month. (Let’s say of 70,000-ish words each.) Next year, I might just take on one a month.
I’d love to get more face-to-face time with writers. And, right, I’m just going to come out and say it: I’m good at it. ![]()
I’ve seen the progress writers make when we meet on Zoom. There’s a lightbulb moment each session where something clicks or makes sense. I’ve been leading people to new understanding all my adult life: first as a teacher and now as an editor. Writers tell me my edits are a learning experience, too (with margin comments that explain as well as inform).
So why not do more of that?
But I’m currently known first and foremost as an editor. Makes sense. I am – and I still will be. But if I change the order of my bio to ‘writing coach and book editor’ and I fling more posts into the algorithm about the coaching work I’m doing, I hope more folks will come to me for that side of things.
So that’s what I’m doing. Operation teach you guys (and the tech bros who control the internet) that I’m open for more 1-to-1s. Cherry Edits: writing coach and book editor. ![]()
Can you help me with that by spreading the word to your writer pals?
