Today I’m looking at Who Says? Mastering Point of View in Fiction by Lisa Zeidner.
Here’s a quotation:
“[W]hen it comes to point of view in fiction, consistency is critical. Many of the missteps in early drafts of writing come as a result of an unjustifiable instability in point of view. That is not to say that a work of fiction can’t have modulations or crescendos. But such departures have to make sense and serve a purpose, not just be for the convenience of the writer at that particular moment in the storytelling.”
Ah, the convenience! Sometimes POVs can be inconvenient, but you’ve got to find a way around it.
What POV inconveniences have you wrangled with? How did you get your storytelling back on track?
