If you’re into terminology, it’s vocative commas we’re looking at today.
If jargon does your head in, that’s fine too – it doesn’t really matter what they’re called.
The plan is to clear up whether you need commas before names in these kinds of circumstances:
– Hi, Bob vs Hi Bob
– In a minute, Bob vs In a minute Bob
– Kick, Bob vs Kick Bob
That kinda thing…!
