šÆļø You know I’m a fan of regional dialect.
Today is #YorkshireDay and, while that’s not my heritage, the 12 years I spent living there were happy ones.
To celebrate the linguistic variety of this beloved place, here are a few of my favourite Yorkshire-isms. (Now, it’s a BIG county so not all folk use these.)
1ļøā£ Worritwowere (what it was was…) — used to start an anecdote. So, worriwowere… š£ļø
2ļøā£ Working 9 while 5 — what a way to make a living! š¼
3ļøā£ Ecky and Clecky — used respectively for Heckmondwike and Cleckheaton š
4ļøā£ Fuddle — where everyone brings food to share for a buffet, see also Jacob’s join š§
5ļøā£ Wi bits? — with scraps, the bits of batter floating around in the fryers and added to your chips free of charge if you answer “yes” to the question. š
